Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 43, p. 196. Works numbers were 38678-38679 in November 1912.
The Illinois Southern was a bridge line that was formed in 1910 to consolidate the bankrupt Southern Illinois and the Southern Missouri. In 1920, the Missouri-Illinois was formed through the reorganization of the SI. The two Mikados in this entry retained their numbers under the new ownership.
501 had the shorter life and suffered a more violent end when its boiler exploded in 1930. 502 was later sold to the Missouri Pacific as their 1282 and operated until May 1952.
