Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 26, p. 28. See also "Brooklyn Navy Yard/New York Naval Shipyard", Military Railroads of the New York Metropolitan Area website, last accessed 5 February 2017 at [] . Works number was 22726 in August 1903.
This was the only Baldwin-built locomotive produced for the Navy Yard. After work in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the 3 moved on to the locomotive rebuilder/reseller Thomas F Cary through a sale brokered by Southern Iron & Equipment. TFC sold the engine to rebuilder/reseller Southern Iron & Equipment, which removed the leading pony truck (thus making it an 0-4-2ST) and sold it in June 1922 to Riverside Lumber Company of Beach, Ga.
