Class Steam motor (Locobase 10523)

Locobase is reminded of the early "oil-electrics" when he looks at the flat-face cab on the front of this steam motor coach in service in the first years of the 20th Century. The coach offered 28 first class seats and 24 second class.

A transversely mounted boiler supplied steam to the cylinder, which drove the rear axle under the engine unit. When the engine needed service, it could be detached from the coach.

NB: Railway Magazine reported the grate area as 7 sq ft as shown in the specs; Railway Times reported 17 sq ft (1.58 sq m). Locobase wonders if the RT area refers to the firebox as a whole.
